Compound identified in grapes may fight cancer and diabetes
Researchers with the U.S. Department of Agriculture have identified another compound in grapes that they believe shows promise in fighting cancer. The compound, pterostilbene, is similar to resveratrol, an antioxidant recently found in grapes and red wine that has also been linked to cancer-prevention, they say.

Diabetes breakthrough

Toronto scientists cure disease in mice. In a discovery that has stunned even those behind it, scientists at a Toronto hospital say they have proof the body's nervous system helps trigger diabetes, opening the door to a potential near-cure of the disease that affects millions of Canadians. Diabetic mice became healthy virtually overnight after researchers injected a substance to counteract the effect of malfunctioning pain neurons in the pancreas.

It's hard to imagine a world without hard disk drives. It amazes me that many of the pioneers of modern technology are still with us, and are still working in their fields, dreaming up new and better inventions. Such was Al Shugart.
